The Super STOL (SSTOL) model, designed and built by Dan Kreigh, was the result of a design study done by Burt Rutan's Scaled Composite for the Hybrid AeroSpace International Company. The radio controlled demonstration model was a 12 th scale 8 foot wingspan model for a proposed commuter type STOL turboprop aircraft that could operate out of short fields. Model highlights are:
1) 3-surface model aircraft
2) Aggressive 40% chord fowler flaps on both canard and wing
3) Retractable landing gear with double bogies on all three gears.
4) Fuel tanks are in the fuselage and pumped up the vertical tails to the engines
5) Twelve servos were used
6) Built and flown in 2001 |
